Recycled Fabrics: dotty is always finding new easy to be innovative- that’s why we’re bringing in fabrics made from recycled materials, like PET bottles and pre-consumer waste. Yep, those soda bottles and fabric scraps are getting a stylish second life as your next favorite blouse or dress. How cool is that?
Fair Labor Practices:Our Toronto, ON based factory ensures all staff receive above-living-wage compensation, health benefits and industry-leading working conditions. We treat our workers like family and know everyone involved in the process by name. This means our sewers, pattern makers, fabric cutters, office administrators are always in good hands and can come to a happy work environment. Our products are ethically produced and will always be - this commitment means there are no child labourers in our factory, no dangerous working conditions, safety resources such as HR, etc.
Local Production: By manufacturing our clothes right here in Toronto, we're not only cutting down on the carbon emissions that come from long-distance transportation, but we're also giving a boost to our local economy. Big box stores produce their clothes overseas, have them shipped individually wrapped in plastic, use tons of emissions to transport and normally end up in a landfill somewhere. Dotty cares about our impact on our own community and choose to contribute rather than diminish.
Low-Impact Factory Production: Our factory maintains sustainable production methods most clothing factories skip due to cost.Think energy-saving processes, minimal waste, and eco-friendly materials. Everything from plotter paper used to cut out fabrics panels, to plastic bags used to organise pieces, to cardboard boxes, to water usage, everything gets a second life and disposed of responsibly when needed. Heavy machinery is responsibly maintained to ensure excess emissions are not being pumped into the atmosphere.
Zero-Waste Hangers: Dotty garments are transported and kept on individual plastic hangers. Once an item is bought, we choose to keep the plastic hanger that would normally be considered single use and always re use it. Part of our operations is stocking all the hangers, counting and bundling up, returning them back to the factory, and reuse again for the next collection. The average lifespan of this single use hanger is around 3-6 years which means by reusing them we’re keeping more than 42,000 hangers out of the landfill.
No Hang Tag Program: Our dotty clothes purchased in store comes without the price hang tag to reduce the amount of excess paper and waste. When the garment is purchased, you take it home, the tag goes straight into the garbage. We see minimal need for the hang tags in store and choose to only use them when requested by our retail partners. Less waste means more love for the planet.
Biodegradable Packaging: All of our online and in person sales are packaged with eco friendly products. Ever noticed our fun poly-mailers? They’re actually compostable! Overtime, the contents of the bag will break down from the organic materials used and leave behind no toxic chemicals or harmful particles. Our in store purchases are wrapped in post-consumer tissue paper and paper bags. Although this means a higher cost on supplies for our company, we were sick when we saw how many poly-mailers we were going through- its always gonna be worth it!
Transparent Supply Chain: We believe in providing detailed information about who, what, where, why and how our clothes are made. Allowing our customers to come along on the journey is not only fun and exciting but we want to encourage them to become more thoughtful with their purchases.We have nothing but love flowing through our operations and we wanna show it!
